Abnormal Psychology

Abnormal psychology is one of the main branches of psychology that deals with abnormal behavior and psychopathology we call it in clinical terms. It covers a broad range of disorders, like depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) to personality disorders. Counselors, clinical psychologists, and psychotherapists often work directly in this field.

Abnormal psychology is all about understanding and getting to know the type, reasons, causes, and treatment of mental disorders. We come across the issues related to the field of abnormal psychology every day. We only have to go through some news or while discussion with someone also we get to know about abnormal psychology. Almost every month we get to hear about some celebrity who is addicted to drugs or any other mental problem. The end numbers of books are full of personal levels of struggles with schizophrenia, depression, phobias, and panic attacks.

Some of the categories of psychological disorders include:

 · Anxiety disorders

· Obsessive-compulsive disorders

· Post-traumatic stress disorders

· Mood disorders

· Personality disorders

· Schizophrenia

· Delusional disorders

· Substance use disorders

· Dissociative disorders

· Impulse control disorders

We usually confuse Abnormal behavior with unusual behavior, but it is necessary to understand that both of them are way different from each other. Behavior that may seem uncommon is not necessarily a sign of a mental or psychological disorder. It may also be just how the person is- living differently than the society in which he/she lives in. That should not be mistaken with mental disorder and therefore, such people are not eligible for the treatment of any mental illness. As we all have different mindset and different ways of living our lives, some of us want to live freely without any limit at the same time many of us want a boundary to be created around us. So, judging other’s way of living is always a bad indicator of your own mindset.

Before providing any treatment, we must understand the abnormal behavior of a person and need to keep track of checking for confirmation. Therapy and medication are the best ways for abnormal behavior. In the case of people opting for therapy, regular visits to the psychologist must be made so that the treatment, if left off in the mind and remains incomplete and untreated, can be monitored.

There are alternatives that could be opted for mental disorders. Music is always the best remedy along with long walks, medication, talking with your close ones and opening up your thoughts are considered the best treatment.
